the Hand of Fatima or (K)Hamsa Hand or Hand of Miriam is a protective symbol used by Muslims and Jews but also other, older religions and cultures. some describe it as the “hand of God” or “the protection of the hand” and it is often seen with an eye inside it, warding off bad spirits and the evil eye.
I have tons of jewelry with the Hand of Fatima on it as well as one hanging above the door in my apartment. in the Middle East you can see the symbol EVERYWHERE. Superstition, I guess…
Lauren, I have the utmost respect for the meaning behind these symbols and the awesome intricacies of their design, but you have to admit that the silhouette of this one looks like Dr. Zoidberg wearing a Darth Vader helmet.
